Vintage hippo salt and pepper shakers designed by Fitz & Floyd. Made in Japan – Circa 1980. Shakers measuring 8cm at highest point, 9cm at widest point.
I’ve always liked the word hippopotamus although I am not sure it’s ever good to be called a hippo unless you are a cute little pink salt and pepper shaker like this one! The word actually means “horse” in Greek and hippos used to be called a “river horse” because they spend much of their time in the water.
This adorable pair of shakers is just detailed enough to seem realistic with the cute pink pads on the feet yet styled with the flesh baby pink and expressive eyes.
